When
we talk about hearing aids we usually assume that these are devices that are
used by older people to help conquer the deafness that comes from old age. This
is not always the case, though. A hearing aid is an electronic device used to
augment and adjust the wearer's hearing to a more normal level. This nifty
gadget is usually worn behind the ear, though there are some versions that are
put inside the ear also.
Hearing
aids are not just for the elderly. They can be worn by anyone and everyone for
every kind of hearing impairment or problem for people of all ages. There are a
lot of options to choose from if you suffer from hearing ailments, and it is
probably best to consult your family audiologist first regarding which kind of
aid to use.
You
can choose from behind-the-ear or BTE aids, which are the most popular kind
because of their ease of use, economy and durability. Another kind is the
in-the-ear or ITE version, which some users prefer due to its being less
visible than the BTE counterpart. Even less visible is the in-the-canal or ITC
hearing aid, which you sometimes won't notice even when talking face to face
with a user.
