Technology has brought us many marvels and amazing inventions, but they
all come with a price. Nowadays we are constantly bombarded with high decibels
of noise from the inside of our homes, and especially outdoors. For people with
hearing complications, this often leads to the worsening of their ailments.
Fortunately, technology has also provided the means to treat ailing hearing:
hearing aids.
Equipment to amplify hearing have
been around since the early 1900s, and thanks to developments in technology,
these devices have not stopped in being fine-tuned and improved to be more
comfortable and easier to use. From the traditional behind-the-ear or BTE
hearing aids, which are quite bulky and heavy, to devices inserted in the ear
canal, which are virtually invisible to casual observers, hearing aids have
been constantly undergoing changes for the better.
Recently technology has birthed
wireless hearing aids, which essentially enables the wearer to receive auditory
information from another source via wireless transmission, unhampered and
undisturbed by background or ambient noise. These are especially popular among
children, due to the fact that these systems give the best results in terms of
understanding speech.
High-tech hearing aids also come
in the form of T-coils (short for Telephone coils), whose lines can be hooked
up into television and FM systems and phone lines, in order to filter out
distracting and harmful noise.
